MDR-NC31 includes a mic on each ear that tracks the noise around you.
These noise signals are sent to the device's DNC circuit, which inverts the sound wave before sending it back to your ears with the reduced noise.
Digital Noise Cancelling(DNC) only works on devices with a 3.5 mm 5-pole audio contract, such as Sony Xperia Z series and Sony NWZ series.
